Biography
Maelstrom
is a Sacramento-based progressive rock quintet who consistently
push boundaries through a strong creative ethic. Their instrumentation
consists of an intense rhythm section, blistering guitar,
compelling sax and flute work, and a commanding vocal presence.
The group's innovative sound draws from numerous influences
that include elements of space-rock, jazz, Celtic, psych,
and fusion. Maelstrom dynamically blends these various styles
together to create a new level of originality. The result
of this musical fusion has proven to be challenging enough
to gain the attention of the most demanding progressive listener,
while remaining accessible to the public at-large.
During
live performances, Maelstrom is always very well received.
Club owners have invited the band back to each venue they
have ever played, and Maelstrom's mailing list is growing
substantially. Additionally, concert reviews have always been
extremely positive. Peter Thelen of Expose Magazine
referred to Maelstrom as the surprise of the
night in his review of a concert that featured Carl Weingarten
and Barry Cleveland of Wayback Machine and
Melting Euphoria.
Maelstrom
has just recorded a 40-minute EP containing three tracks that
showcase the band's talent, variation, and dynamic explorations.
Since this recording, three new songs have been added to their
repertoire that push Maelstrom towards a higher standard of
excellence. The group plans to record a full-length album
this summer containing all their material to date. Totally
opposed to formula-rock, Maelstrom seeks to revolutionize
the music industry by creating intriguing new directions in
modern music that will entice the listener to further explore
the possibilities of progressively-minded music.
